What have we be doing in Sport at St Christopher's School? Smile for the camera!

On Thursday 28th September 2017 St Christopher’s took part in the Year 5 & 6 Sportshall Athletics competition run by the Canterbury Academy as part of the Canterbury District Sports Games Organisation. The children represented the school fantastically well, with all children giving 110% in all the track and field events they took part in. Special mention should go to Daisy W - who, despite injuring her knee, continued taking part in all her events and never gave up! Also, well done to Richard S who was given the award of best team worker by the Canterbury Sportshall organiser, who noticed his excellent team building skills throughout the day.

Year 2 & 3 have been enjoying hockey this term at the fantastic Polo Farm Hockey Centre. Using the professional water based astro-turf pupils take part in sessions delivered by a top local coach to introduce them to the sport.
St Christopher's School pupils won several sports awards at the at the School Partnership Awards. The event took place at the Canterbury Academy on 20th July. William B, Harriet B, Osten F-P and Amelie W were part of the Key Stage 1 Team of the Year. Madeleine DS won the award for Demonstrating School Games Values 2017 and Eddy P won Contribution to School PE 2017.  Fantastic achievements all round and we look forward to being involved in more competitive sports throughout the local area in the next academic year.

On 7th June, pupils from Years 3 and 4 took part in a Tri-Golf Tournament at Herne Bay High School. St Christopher's School pupils chipped and putted golf balls against 12 other schools from the local area.

Eight events aimed to test the pupil's ability to chip and putt golf balls at and through targets as well ascombining the two disciplines in the "Drive for Show - Putt for Dough".

It was an excellent event and pupils always benefit from competitive sports as well as being introduced to new sports they may not have tried before. Well done to our pupils for a great effort. We love taking part in School Games events and following the Kent Schools Games values of "determination, honesty, respect, passion, teamwork and self-belief".

The St Christopher's Team
On 9th February 2017 a team of year 6 Dodgeball players (selected from a hat!) attended a local competition at Canterbury High School. Pupils took part in 5 fixtures in total, winning 2 and losing 3. For a first attempt at a local dodgeball competition it was a very good effort!  St Christopher's Year 6 Dodgeball Players and their Competitors

Year 6 pupils from St Christopher's School joined 14 other schools from their local area to take part in a School Games Multi-School Event at Herne Bay High School in their Athletics Centre. Featuring track and field events from relays, long jumps, vertical jumps and javelins (albeit the soft version!) pupils got a taste for competitive sports with link-minded sports enthusiasts.

This was a taster for St Christopher's School pupils and something we are looking to involve ourselves in more as it was an excellent opportunity and pupils really enjoyed themselves...watch this space!
