Year 2 Celebrate Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year falls on 16th February 2018 this year (unfortunately during half-term) so our year 2 class have brought it forward to 2nd February 2018 so they can enjoy the festivities with their peers as a culmination of all they have learnt in their topic work this term.

All the children wore one item of red clothing for good luck and spent the day learning about Chinese New Year traditions and tasting some Chinese food. Mrs Monica Mackinnon (Kent Chinese School - https://sites.google.com/site/kentchinesecanterbury/) very kindly came into the class to talk about calligraphy. It was then the pupils turn to apply what they had learnt from Mrs Mackinnon. The children were extremely enthusiastic and did very well at writing the numbers 1-10 in Chinese characters.

The celebrations were finalised with a showing of the popular Disney film 'Mulan' which is based on the famous warrior 'Lady Fu Hao'.
